Camarón y Paco de Lucía

El Camarón de la Isla (December 5, 1950, San Fernando, Cádiz, Spain July 2, 1992, Badalona, Spain) was the stage name of flamenco gypsy singer José Monje Cruz who is sometimes also credited as José Monge Cruz.

His uncle José nicknamed him Camarón (Spanish for "Shrimp") because he was blonde and fair skinned. At the age of eight he began to sing at inns and bus stops with Rancapino to earn money. At sixteen he won first prize at the Festival del Cante Jondo in Mairena de Alcor. El Camarón then went to Madrid with Miguel de los Reyes and in 1968 became a resident artist at the Tablao Torres Bermejas where he remained for twelve years.

There he met Paco de Lucía with whom he recorded nine albums between 1969 and 1977. The two toured extensively together during this period. As Paco de Lucía became more occupied with solo concert commitments, El Camarón worked with one of Paco's students, Tomatito.

In 1976 at the age of 25, Camarón married Dolores Montoya, a Gypsy girl from La Línea de la Concepción whom he nicknamed "La Chispa" (The Spark). At the time La Chispa was only 16. The couple went on to have four children.

Many consider El Camarón to be the single most popular and influential flamenco "cantaor" (singer) of the modern period. Although his work brought criticism from some traditionalists, he was one of the first to feature an electric bass in his songs. This was a turning point in the history of Flamenco music that helped distinguish Nuevo Flamenco.

In 1992 José Monge Crúz died of lung cancer. It was estimated that more than 100,000 people attended his funeral.

Guitar Lesson - The Secret To Improving Your Playing Fast

A core aspect of guitar practice is goal setting.

To put it bluntly ñ you must set goals!

Let me explain why this is so important. Hopefully my explanation will show you just how important, and incredibly powerful, this technique is if you want to be constantly improving as a guitar player.

If you set goals you give your sub-conscious mind something clear to focus on.

When you write down your goal, and commit to doing it, you have set something in motion. By writing it down, youíre making it much more likely to happen.

So, you must set some goals and write them down.

I know this may sound unimportant to you at the moment, especially if you have never used this technique before.

But trust me on thisÖBefore I set goals to work on in my practice I was highly frustrated with the lack of results I was getting.

Goal setting keeps you focused and makes you get what you want from your practice.

Also, if you donít set goals, you donít have anything clear to measure how well youíve progressed. This can mean that you donít progress much at all, or you donít notice your progress.

This can lead to lack of desire to play guitar and lack of desire is a 100% guaranteed route to failure.

Thatís not what you want, is it?

So, in summary:

You must cover each of these points:

ï Your must set long-term and short-term goals.
ï You must read & review your goals before you practice.
ï You must focus on completing these goals while youíre practicing.
ï When you finish practicing, review your goals and tick off the goals you have completed.
ï If you miss a goal, donít worry! Review the goal and decide if it was realistic enough. If it wasnít realistic, change it until it is. If you still feel it is realistic, leave it there and work on it next time.
ï It helps to make your goal time limited. (E.g. Within 30 days) This will help keep you focused and accountable.

Guitar Lessons ñ String Bending

Bending strings is used to give the guitar a more personalized and harmonic quality. The technique is used mostly by lead guitar players but is also applied in all styles of playing. String bending and vibrato techniques are two large components in making up a guitar playerís style. The combination of these skills more or less defines a considerable part of what makes your playing different than the next guy.

Bending the strings far enough to reach a desired pitch is the goal. One of the keys is to use three fingers to bend the string, instead of just one finger. Use your third finger on the fret you're bending and place your first and second fingers on the frets behind it, and use the strength of all three fingers when you do a bend.

Fret the note on the 7th fret of the third string with your third finger. Your other finger should follow on the 6th and 5th fret. Our goal is to bend this note up one step (the equivalent of two frets) and then release the note to its original pitch. Before you do your first bend hit the note on the 9th fret, this will be your reference note. When you do your bend the goal is to make the tone of your bend ìreachî the tone of the reference note. Repeat: hit your reference note, then immediately jump to the correct position and play a bend until to can consistently match the reference note.

The length you hold the bend, how quickly you release it and any vibrato you add to the bend will define a large part of playing your style. Itís good to just have fun and try doing a number of bends and releases to hear all the different sounds you can generate. Try bending the note before you strike it so you just hear the release, or try using a wide or narrow vibrato so act character and color to your bends.

Be patient you haven't used these muscles before, and is will take time to strengthen. Keep practicing, and you'll get the hang of it eventually.

Guitar Lesson - How To Practice Guitar

If desire is the key to apprendre la guitare (without it you wouldnít have even started), then attention is the key to exercising instrument.

I often say to individuals that 20 moments of targeted work out can defeat, hands down, 2 time of ënormalí work out, or just goofing about.

Many individuals are frustrated when they are informed how plenty of your energy and energy they must put into work out. The fact is, you donít have to work out all time to be a excellent musician.

(Iím not saying you shouldnít have enough time to fail off and execute around. But if you want to enhance quickly, you must keep enjoying instrument and exercising instrument individual.)

Let me tell you nowÖ

It isnít how plenty of your energy and energy you put into work out, itís the excellent of the work out that issues.

When I execute instrument, I execute to have fun, I execute to execute for individuals, and I execute for the fun of playing! Thatís why I began studying instrument in the first place.

But when I work out instrument, I focus and focus on what Iím trying to accomplish, and I work on the objectives that I want to complete.

You see, if you really focus on one factor you are more likely to do it well.

This may sound simple too to some. Some of you may be thinking ìthis is excellent, I only need to work out 20 moments a day and ill enhance more than I would if I exercising 2 time a dayî.

Well thatís not exactly true.

Its how targeted your work out is that number, not how lengthy you work out. Can you really focus for 2 hours?

Let me give you this small example to demonstrate my point.

Picture a red triangular inside a black box.

Close your sight, and keep that image in your thoughts for 5 a few moments without allowing a single factor draw attention away you ñ no other believed must get into your thoughts for that 5 secondsÖ

How well did you do? Be sincere with yourself.

This isnít an simple factor to do. Most individuals this challenging at first. Its challenging to keep a targeted thoughts like this.

I wish this example has proven you that itís not that simple to keep targeted attention & attention for look time times.

But still, you must always remember that its excellent and not variety of work out that makes the difference between an excellent gamer and a typical gamer.

This is a perfect time to tell you that you shouldnít be spening too plenty of your energy and energy and time ëpracticingí, because you simply canít focus for that period.

If you are exercising for a strong 2 time or more you are probably not assisting your growth as a musician that much.

A much better way of using now is to work out in jolts.

A wise decision would be to work out in jolts of 20 moments or so. You can differ it based on what you experience like doing, but try not to work out for prolonged in one go. Itís not assisting as much as you think it might be.

Also, itís essential to take smashes from what youíre exercising. You can do something else for some time, go for a move, watch TV, or maybe just execute around and have fun with your instrument and unwind a bit before you begin concentrating on work out again.

It is essential for you to have a meaning in your own thoughts of ëpracticing guitarí and ëplaying guitarí.

This will keep you more targeted and allow you to be a success as a musician much easier.

An work out for you to try to help you further create attention is to sit quietly and depend gradually from one to ten in your thoughts.

If anything should stop your keeping track of, whether it is a disturbance, a wander believed, or the attention of your own respiration, you must begin over from one.

Again, itís unlikely you will be able to accomplish this straight-away. Itís a hard factor to do. However how out and 'Zen' this work out may seem, it will re-focus your thoughts on the process in hand, and itíll help you learn quicker if you can focus on one goal on what youíre exercising.

You should try this work out whenever you begin to experience like youíre losing your focus.

Free Guitar Chord Charts

This article will show you how to make the best use of free guitar chord charts that you can find online. As the internet changes, sites go down and new ones come up, so I won't risk this resource going out of date by discussing where to find your free guitar chord charts, just how to use them to kick start your guitar playing. You can easily get together a nice collection of chord charts and lyrics to your favorite songs to help you learn to play the guitar. If you feel that you should be learning a whole bunch of musical theory and how to read musical notation, but somehow feel it's just not you, then that's okay - start with what you feel most enthusiastic about. Once you have started to learn using guitar chord charts you have bought or downloaded for free, you might see as you go along that you will need to know a little bit about musical theory to see how chords and scales fit together. If, however, you are comfortable learning chords to your favorite songs, then keep at it. So let's start with the basic baby steps and work up to some really useful knowledge about guitar chords and how the dots on the charts relate to musical sounds. You know the frets on your guitar's neck somehow show you where the notes are, so let's get a little more technical. You will see when you use scale charts to learn to play guitar tunes that in a given position on the fret board, you will sometimes need to move up or down one fret or two frets. If you play the note at the first fret, and then move up to the second fret, you have moved up a semitone. If you have moved up two frets, it is called a tone. The distance between the notes E and F or B and C is a tone. The distance between the notes C and D is a tone. So as you learn songs in different keys you will start to see that what you are playing when you play scales is different patterns of tones or semi tones on the guitar neck. If you have watched guitarists play you will have noticed that sometimes they place their index finger across all six strings. This is called a barre. When you begin to learn songs you will be making use of chords played in the FIRST position on the fret board. These are mostly open chords, that is chords that do not make use of the barre. You can try to play barre chords any time, but it's a bit ambitious to expect to be able to use them until after your hands have done some practice with open chords. When you are learning chords to accompany songs, you will probably make use of your chord charts showing you chords that use all the guitar's strings. But if you want to get into playing solos start with the three note chords called triads. The three notes in a triad are the basic notes of your chord, so by learning triads you will begin to see how the guitar chords are structured. Also you can move your triads up and down the fret board to make new chords. Here's an example: The chord of A Major is made up of the notes A C# and E shown in tab form as: E----------------------------------------- B--------------2-------------------------- G--------------2-------------------------- D--------------2-------------------------- A----------------------------------------- E----------------------------------------- Move that shape one semitone (one fret) up the neck and you get A# or Bb. E----------------------------------------- B--------------3-------------------------- G--------------3-------------------------- D--------------3-------------------------- A----------------------------------------- E----------------------------------------- One fret higher is B Major. E----------------------------------------- B--------------4-------------------------- G--------------4-------------------------- D--------------4-------------------------- A----------------------------------------- E----------------------------------------- This shape played anywhere on the neck will give you a major chord. The fret it is played at tells you the key it is in. Here are the notes for the triads of the basic chords: C Major - C E G D Major - D F# A E Major - B E G# F Major - C F A G Major - G B D A Major - A C# E B Major - B D# F# Now the minor chords: C Minor - C Eb G D Minor - D F A E Minor - B E G F Minor - C F Ab G Minor - G Bb D A Minor - A C E B Minor - B D F# Naturally, there will be some points you need to make a little clearer, so you will find more descriptions and illustrations available for free on the internet.

Besame Mucho - Guitar Chords And Lyrics

Besame Mucho is one of the most popular songs of all time, being recorded by an extraordinarily diverse range of singers and instrumentalists.
It was written in 1940 by a sixteen-year-old Mexican girl called Consuelo Velasquez. The song was a steamy expression of a young girl's longing to be kissed. The title of the song means "kiss me alot" and it stirred the imaginations of men and women all over the world. In 1944 a young American singer named Kitty Kallen sang the song with Jimmy Dorsey and his orchestra and it stayed for six weeks on the charts of Billboard Magazine.

Another key figure in the story of Besame Mucho is Sunny Skylar, composer and arranger who sang with big bands in the nieteen forties. He wrote music and lyrics for many popular songs including: Amor, And So To Sleep Again and Love Me With All Your Heart. There are other translations of the song but Skylar's seems to be a favorite. Here are the lyrics as interpreted by Sunny Skylar:
BÈsame, bÈsame mucho
Each time I cling to your kiss, I hear music divine
BÈsame mucho
Hold me my darling and say that you'll always be mine
This joy is something new
My arms enfolding you
Never knew this thrill before
Whoever thought I'd be
Holding you close to me
Whispering "It's you I adore"
Dearest one
If you should leave me
Each little dream would take wing, and my life would be through
BÈsame mucho
Love me forever and make all my dreams come true

At the time of writing the song Consuelo insisted she had never been kissed but she certainly sounds like she knew what she wanted. I think Skylar was wise in not translating the words "besane mucho" into literal English like "kiss me much" or "kiss me alot".

Just to get the feel of the song, here are Consuelo's original words:
And here are the original lyrics by Consuelo Velazquez:
BÈsame, bÈsame mucho
Como si fuera esta noche la ˙ltima vez
BÈsame mucho
Que tengo miedo perderte, perderte otra vez
Quiero tenerte muy
Cerca, mirarme en tus
Ojos, verte junto a mÌ

If you are a guitar player and you know how to play the A minor, D minor, A major and E major chords you will easily be able to play Besame Mucho.

As for the composer of the song, she was supposed to have been a classical concert pianist having learnt the piano when she was four years old. Consuelo wrote many other popular Mexican songs including: Amar y vivir, Verdad amarga, Franqueza, Que seas feliz, Cachito and Enamorada.

The list of vocal and instrumental artists who have recorded Besame  Mucho goes on and on. Some notable ones are: Andrea Bocelli, Artie Shaw, The Beatles, Charles Aznavour, Chris Isaak, Edith Piaf, The Dead Brothers, Leslie Nielsen(!!), Sammy Davis Jr and Stan Getz.

For lovers of acoustic guitar, Besame Mucho is included on an album of latin standards by flamenco guitarist, Paco de Lucia. Other tracks on the CD include: Malaguena, Mantilla De Feria, Granada, Manha De Carnaval, Perfidia, La Virgen De La Macarena and Moliendo Cafe. Paco is one of the world's greatest guitarists and it would be well worth your while to have a listen to this excellent CD. Meanwhile, good luck with your own efforts at playing this luscious song.

Bass Guitar Players Who Changed The World

Some people think that if you want to change the world you don't become a bass player, but go into something more challenging and stimulating like the Post Office. But does this myth portray how bass players really are? Let's step back from our habitual way of seeing bass guitar players as necessary but boring members of the group. Like accountants. Sure we acknowledge the fine contribution they make to their bands by supplying the bass lines and paying for the beer, but do they actually do anything really creative? This brief listing of some prominent men (and woman) of bass will allow you to see that this apparently self effacing member of a musical group could be the creative powerhouse.

Let's start with the leather jacketed but overpoweringly feminine Suzi Quatro. A vocalist and bass player who had a bunch of hits in Australia and Europe in the early seventies, her popularity in the USA stemmed from her role as Leather Tuscadero in Happy Days.

John Entwistle
pioneered the use of the electric bass guitar as an instrument for soloists. His aggressive approach to the bass guitar influenced many other bassists.

Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers
impressed a lot of musicians with his popping and slapping technique which was originally invented by Larry Graham of Sly And The Family Stone. Flea's innovative use of effects pedals has also influenced many bass players.

Jack Bruce
wrote most of supergroup Cream's hit songs. Among his other achievements are fighting constantly with Cream's drummer, Ginger Baker and surviving a liver transplant.

Greg Lake is another artist of the early seventies who played with a number of innovators from the glam rock era. Lake is best known for his vocals, bass and guitar work with Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

Rob Bailey is a bassist who plays loud and aggressive. His bass playing is an important element in the music of AC/DC.

Benny Rietveld
, a Dutch musician who went to college in Hawaii, is admired for his musical and individualistic style of playing. He worked with Barney Kessell, Sheila E, Huey Lewis and Miles Davis. He has also made an album featuring Carlos Santana. Talk about diverse.

Paul McCartney played bass with The Beatles. Many bass players say he's quite good, but he changed the world with his romantic song lyrics.

Considered by some to be the king of bass players, Stanley Clarke employs a variation of the pop and slap technique to produce some truly innovative bass guitar music. His 1976 album, School Days, is acclaimed by many critics as one of the greatest bass albums ever.

A true bass lead guitar player, Billy Sheehan has won Guitar Player Magazine's "Best Rock Bass Player" readers' poll five times. Why a "bass lead guitar player"? Because Billy plays bass as if he were playing lead.

So if you are not familiar with bass guitar players I hope this article has whetted your appetite.

Why not spend your next rainy Sunday watching some of their work on YouTube?

Basic Guitar Chords And How To Play Them

One of the challenges for the novice guitarist is learning the basic chords. You will not only need to know where to put your fingers, but also how to change from one chord to another. The technique of smooth transition between chords is a learning process we are never really finished with. Every time we learn something new on the guitar, that's another sequence of small movements our body learns, and these sets of movements must be executed smoothly through relaxed, calm practice.

Holding chords with your left hand is a new skill. It uses groups of muscles we do not normally use, so it takes time to learn the chord shapes without experiencing discomfort. There is light at the end of the tunnel, although sometimes the tunnel seems very, very long.

Another physical adaptation that has to be made when you learn your basic guitar chords is the left-hand fingers need to be toughened up. Callouses form on the tips of the fingers after a few weeks playing, but until they do you need to put up with the pain.

Fortunately learning the notes on the guitar is a job that does come to an end. As you learn more songs, chords and scales you will feel your ease with musical theory and notation growing even if you didn't directly learn much theoretical stuff. If you learnt in your own way the knowledge gets into you by way of constant practice and the enjoyment you bring to your guitar playing.

So the task at hand is to learn a basic group of chords. This is your toolbox you begin your guitar playing with.
Each chord is identified by a letter. If the letter is followed by the word, minor, it's a minor chord. If it is just the letter alone, it's a major chord.

Major chords contain the Root note, a major third above the Root plus a fifth above the Root.
Minor chords, which have a more "sad" sound, are the same except that they contain a minor third instead of a major third.

A basic rule of thumb for understanding major and minor chords is for a
major chord play the (1) (3) and (5) of the major scale, and for a minor chord play the (1) (3) and (5) of the minor scale.

A handy thing to know once you start playing barre chords is that if you learn the major chord shape, you only need to lift one left-hand finger to play the minor chord.

The basic chords come from the keys of A G C and D. The chords themselves can be played at all positions on the fret board, but beginners start with open chords at the first position. This means that at least one note is played on an open string.

We group the basic keys into families:
The A family contains the chords A, D and E.
The D family contains the chords D, E minor, G and A.
The G family contains the chords G, A minor, C, D and E minor.
The C family contains the chords C, D minor, E minor, F and G.

Acoustic Guitar Lessons

These mini guitar lessons have been put together for the beginner acoustic guitar student who feels a  need to play music but is a bit short on direction.

Lesson One - What kind of guitar are you going to buy?
If you have a rough idea of what kind of music you want to play, the next step is to find yourself a guitar.
Let's start with the basics - nylon string or steel string. A nylon string guitar was made to play classical and folk music. Acoustic guitars make their music by sending the vibration of the strings to the soundboard. The vibrations are then amplified in the body of the guitar. Nylon string guitars make a mellow tone; steel string guitars make a brighter, more metallic sound. One of the main things that will influence you in deciding what kind of sound you want is the guitar your favorite performer plays.

If you are just starting out you will not need a top of the range guitar but it is best to get the nicest one in your price range. A cheap, poorly made guitar will be an uphill battle to play. A good instrument will make your practice sessions something to look forward to.

Try different guitars. See how the neck feels. Check out if one neck feels more comfortable to play than others. Another consideration is the distance of the strings from the fret board which is called the "action". Low action is easier to play but if you are planning on strumming enthusiastically or picking loudly the guitar may have a tendency to buzz.

Lesson Two - Go ahead and learn.
The very first step toward learning to play acoustic guitar is to develop confidence and to overcome your natural reluctance to try new things. Lack of money, lack of time, or lack of a good teacher are three big obstacles to your guitar learning progress. The other three big obstacles are all you. You may be your own worst enemy. How do you react to a challenge? Challenges are your friends. If you find yourself getting frustrated, and not wanting to continue your practice, it might be time to downsize your goal, at least for a while. If you have two chords that you have trouble with, work on the first one alone for a while. Once you have improved a little, go to the next one.

Lesson Three - Daily Practice
As far as your daily practice goes look at starting with half an hour a day. If you can do more, great, you'll become a guitarist faster. The way you carry out your practice is crucial. Putting in the time isn't the only requirement. If you rush or try to fit too much in, then you're working against yourself. Err on the side of too little material at first. If you really are accomplishing what you set out to do in less than thirty minutes, then add a little more.

Lesson Four - Tuning Your Guitar

You can find online guitar tuners to help you get your acoustic guitar in tune. Take a day or two of your practice time to get the knack of tuning. When you start to develop an ear for tuning, try tuning the guitar without the tuner.

Lesson Five - Holding Your Acoustic Guitar
Long hours of practice can take their toll. Learning how to sit and play your acoustic guitar is an art in itself. There are places on the internet that have illustrations showing you how to sit when you're playing, but it would be good to find somebody with a little experience to show you. But don't just go with the way one person plays. If he's self-taught, then you don't want to pick up his bad habits!
